Draft Beer Line Cleaning and Draft System Service in Ukrainian Village

Ukrainian Village lies in the West Town community area, bounded by Division Street, Damen Avenue, Chicago Avenue and Western Avenue. By 1930 most of Chicago's Ukrainian community lived inside those streets, and its churches, including the Louis Sullivan-designed Holy Trinity Orthodox Cathedral, remain alongside the Ukrainian National Museum and the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art. In 1983 it became the first neighborhood the city officially designated.

Its side streets are lined with workers' cottages and two- and three-flats, many inside a city landmark district, and its bars and restaurants are found mostly along the edges. Chicago Avenue, on the south side, has become a strip of creative restaurants, while Division Street, shared with Wicker Park, mixes old-school taverns with newer bars popular with restaurant workers. Live music and a few late-night kitchens round out the neighborhood.

Older taverns tend to show their age in the draft system: lines and fittings added and patched over the years, coolers tucked into old basements. We keep Ukrainian Village systems cleaned on schedule, replace worn parts, rebuild older setups once patching stops working, and install new systems for restaurants opening along Chicago Avenue and Division Street.

Ukrainian Village is one of the West Town neighborhoods we serve. See the Chicago page.

Common questions

Our building is in a city landmark district. Does that affect draft work?

It can, mainly for changes to the outside. In a Chicago landmark district, building permits are routed through the city's landmarks staff, who look at exterior features such as storefronts and rooftop equipment. Most draft work happens indoors, but a chiller condenser on the roof or a new opening in a street-facing wall should be planned with landmarks approval in mind. Planning a draft system.

Our CO2 cylinders are in the basement next to the walk-in. Is there anything to watch for?

Yes. CO2 is heavier than air and can collect in low, enclosed spaces like basements and walk-in coolers, so a leak is a safety issue as well as a cost. Keep cylinders secured upright, and have the system leak-checked from tank to keg. We check fittings, regulators and coupler seals and fix any leaks we find. Leak checks and gas service.
